Kubu Raya
Kubu Raya Regency is a regency of West
Kalimantan, Indonesia. It was created in 2007 from the (larger) central
and southern part of Pontianak Regency. It covers an area of
6,958.22 sq.km, and at the 2010 Census it had a population of 500,970; the
latest official estimate (for January 2014) is 518,116. The principal town lies
at Sungai Raya, directly
adjacent to the City of Pontianak.
For some of people of West Kalimantan Province,
specifically that lives in Pontianak City and surrounding the region is well
known with Sungai Kakap Fishing Port. Fishing Port of Sungai Kakap is a landing
center and development of Capture Fisheries that located in Kecamatan Sungai
Kakap, Kubu Raya Regency. This place, beside has a function as a center of
catupre fisheries development but also has a function as a center of
marine tourism based on capture fisheries. Therefore beside fisherman, the
other people living in other places in this region are also well known with
this place.
As a landing based for fishing vessel who is
dominantly owned by local people, this fishing port is very busy with fisherman
activities form early morning to to the night black. It is recorded that the
fishing vessels have a landing based in this port in about 350 units. Most of
the fishing vessels are traditional vessel and under 30 gross tone in sizes.
The majority of their fishing gears are gillnetted and then followed by fish
traps, long liners, fish nets and others.
The facilities that are available for fisherman
in this fishing port are quayside, fish auction building, fuel station, ice
station / mini factory, fresh water station / tank, grocery store to fishing,
workshop, vessel docking and other facilities.
Most of fishing vessels in this port have a fishing ground/area not
too far from their residence, the average of their trips are in about from 2
weeks to 4 weeks (or 1 month). The volume of fish production cough from the sea
majority is landed and also sold in this fishing port to fish trader and then
transported to Pontianak City and to other places.
